Sheila Bonito is an Associate Professor of the Faculty of Management and Development Studies in the UP Open University. Her main research areas are disaster management, noncommunicable diseases prevention and control, eLearning pedagogy and technologies, data science in social media. 

She finished her Bachelor of Nursing, Master of Arts in Nursing (Adult Health Nursing) and Doctor of Public Health (Epidemiology)  from the University of the Philippines Manila. She also took a postgraduate Diploma in Gerontology and Geriatrics from the University of Malta. She was awarded the International Postdoctoral Fellowship in Nursing by Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) and The International Network for Doctoral Education in Nursing (INDEN) under the Johns Hopkins University College of Nursing in 2011.  She was also a recipient of the Technologiestipendien Südostasien (TSA Post Doc) within the framework of the ASEA UNINET under the Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research (OeAD-GmbH) Centre for International Cooperation & Mobility (ICM) and worked with the Institut für Softwaretechnik und Interaktive Systeme, Vienna University of Technology in 2015.
