FMDS conducts FIC Orientation for Second Semester AY 2017-2018
The Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) conducted the Faculty-In-Charge (FIC) Orientation for the Second Semester AY 2017-2018 on 19 January 2018 at the Audio Visual Room, UPOU Headquarters, UP Open University, Los Baños, Laguna.
As part of the Faculty’s thrust to enhance the learning experience of its students through faculty development, FMDS conducts FIC Orientation every semester to orient new FICs and provide updates for continuing FICs on new techniques, approaches, technologies and other teaching methods via the distance mode. The FIC Orientation also serves as a venue for continuing FICs to share their stories and experiences in online teaching.
Dr. Primo G. Garcia, Dean of FMDS discussed topics on Introduction to Open and Distance e-Learning, Online Learning Activities and Facilitating Online learning and Building Community of Learners. Asst. Prof. Rita C. Ramos, Secretary to the Faculty of FMDS, discussed the Roles of FICs and other Administrative Matters, Assessment in Online Learning and Basics of MyPortal.
To acquaint the FICs with new technologies in teaching via distance mode, Ms. Ellaisa Ruth B. Veluz, Research Assistant under the Diploma in Research and Development Management (DR&DM) showed some video samples used by different programs of FMDS in the previous semesters such as videos produced with the assistance from FMDS and UPOU Multimedia Center and videos produced using different soft wares such as ScreenFlow and Screencast-O-Matic. Ms. Veluz also shared basic lecture on the use of Facebook Live. Ms. Paula Grace M. Muyco, Research Assistant of Diploma in/Master of Social Work (D/MSW) and Diploma in Women and Development (DWD) shared basic lecture on the use of Powtoons, online software which the D/MSW and DWD programs used for creating promotional and welcome videos. FMDS partners with DOST-PCIEERD for “Master of Research and Development Management” project
The Diploma in Research and Development Management (DR&DM) program of the Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) partnered with the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) to implement the “Master of Research and Development Management (MR&DM)” project.
The project aims to upgrade the current DR&DM program into a ladderized multi-entry and multi-exit online and distance e-learning master’s program to cater to the growing demand for research and development (R&D) managers in universities, line government agencies, laboratories, and private industries to keep abreast with knowledge and skills in R&D management.
Moreover, the project aims to identify the needs of R&D personnel, practitioners, and managers in the country, review the current DR&DM program in relation to recent developments in the field, propose a ladderized master’s degree in R&D Management, and and develop course modules for the master’s program after the proposed curriculum is approved by the University.
The project will run for nineteen (19) months--with 7 months dedicated to curriculum development, and 12 months for course material development. Dr. Jaine Reyes, DR&DM Program Chair, coordinates the project. (Ellaisa Ruth Veluz)
FMDS-UPOU has two new projects under the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI)
Two new UP Open University (UPOU) projects submitted to the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI) were approved for implementation. The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), through the Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS), has been a member of the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative since 2012.
For the Satoyama Development Mechanism (SDM) 2017 Project , 23 applications were submitted to the SDM Secretariat and only six applications were selected that are deemed most promising for the implementation and promotion of the concept of the Satoyama Initiative. FMDS-UPOU’s submission is “Contextualization of the Instructional Materials for the Training of Youths toward Conservation of Ifugao Rice Terraces as a Satoyama Landscape” in partnership with the existing project of UPOU in Ifugao which is the Youth for Ifugao Rice Terraces. This project aims to contextualize through translation the instructional materials for the training of youths toward conservation of Ifugao Rice Terraces as Satoyama landscape. The said project will run from January 2018 to January 2019.
For the IPSI Collaborative Activity, which are activities undertaken by two or more members of IPSI, UPOU’s project is “Development and sharing of multimedia learning resources for Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Satoyama.” This is a collaborative activity between UPOU and Kanazawa University (KU). UPOU and KU have collaborated in various projects related to the conservation and sustainable development of Ifugao Rice Terraces since 2013.
IPSI is comprised of 202 member organizations committed to supporting socio ecological landscapes and seascapes (SEPLS) for the benefit of biodiversity and human well-being through the implementation of their respective activities. (NDSAlazada)
