Project LAKBAY (Learning Actively through Knowledge-Based Appreciation for Youth) takes inspiration from the Tagalog word lakbay, meaning “journey,” symbolizing the active engagement of young people in sustainability efforts. The program aims to raise awareness of global sustainability initiatives and empower youth to take part in meaningful actions toward sustainable development.
The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), through its International University Social Responsibility (IUSR) initiative, recognizes the vital role that universities play in advancing both local and global communities. As centers of knowledge and innovation, universities have a responsibility to extend their expertise beyond academia and into society. IUSR embodies UPOU’s commitment to breaking down institutional barriers by engaging in Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)-focused, people-centered, and knowledge-driven initiatives that directly benefit communities.
