UPOU-UNICEF Meeting Explores Collaborations for Child Rights
The University of the Philippines Open University’s Faculty of Management and Development Studies (UPOU-FMDS) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) convened in a collaborative meeting on 29 January 2024, at the Teaching and Learning Hub, UPOU Headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna. The meeting aimed to discuss potential collaborations and initiatives focusing on child rights.
The agenda included a range of topics presented by key figures from both UPOU and UNICEF, highlighting ongoing efforts and future plans to promote and protect the rights of children. The meeting was attended by Dr. Primo Garcia, UPOU Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Joane V. Serrano, UPOU-FMDS Dean, Dr. Finaflor F. Taylan, UPOU-FMDS Program Chair of Diploma in/Master of Social Work, Dr.. Augusto Rodriguez, UPOU-FMDS professorial lecturer and former UNICEF officer, Ms. Dona Lyn M. Piamonte, UPOU-FMDS University Extension Associate, Ms. Sydney Rovin Macahiya, UPOU-FMDS Support staff for Micro-credentials and Ms. Maya Faisa, Chief of the Social Policy Section at UNICEF.
This collaborative meeting marked a significant step towards fostering a meaningful partnership between UPOU and UNICEF. Both institutions demonstrated a shared dedication to the development of courses, specifically focusing on “Child Rights and Business” and “Public Finance for Children.” This collaborative effort underscores a joint commitment to advancing the cause of child rights through education and strategic initiatives.
