The UPOU Earth Ambassadors from Paciano Rizal Elementary School (PRES) and Sto. Domingo Elementary School (SDES) joined in the celebration of Reading Month 2023 last 13 and 15 November 2023 with activity conducted with a guest facilitator from International Christian University (ICU) of Japan.
Ms. Paloma Martinez Aguirre, a PhD student from ICU under its Public Policy and Social Research Program and a non-formal student under the Permaculture Systems Design Thinking (PSDT) of FMDS conducted two activities with Grades 4-6 students of PRES and SDES respectively.
The Reading Month activities organized by Ms. Aguirre aimed to explore nature with the Earth Ambassadors by playing Cards for Life – a card game designed to help participants reflect on their values, goals, and life decisions in connection to nature activities they have done or experienced; and by creating the Nature Zine by reflecting on a simple everyday activity in nature or choosing one plant or animal and turning it into interesting stories.
As the activities came to an end, all the students were left with a newfound appreciation for storytelling and appreciation for the simple yet profound ways nature contributes to their lives.
This activity is in support of UPOU-FMDS’s commitment to inspire innovative and holistic education by inspiring young minds to think critically and creatively.
