

On 22 October 2025, the project team of “Participatory Approach in Assessing and Promoting Women-led Permaculture among Selected Permaculture Sites in the Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources (AANR) Sectors in the Philippines” conducted a courtesy call to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Pitogo, Quezon.
The courtesy call aimed to introduce the project and discuss possible areas of collaboration with the LGU offices in supporting the project’s implementation and long-term goals. The research project, led by Associate Professor Finaflor F. Taylan, Dean of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS), focuses on assessing and promoting women-led permaculture practices that contribute to social and environmental development and sustainability within the AANR sectors.
Representing the project during the visit were Assoc. Prof. Taylan (Project Leader), Tiffany Leanne Catbagan, and Madelyn Baltazar. The team presented an overview of the project’s objectives, methodologies, and expected outcomes, emphasizing the importance of local partnerships in strengthening community-based sustainable agriculture initiatives.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Office of the Mayor, Municipal Agriculturist Office, Municipal Tourism Office, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation, and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO).
The courtesy call provided an opportunity for meaningful dialogue with the LGU representatives. The team and the local officials discussed possible collaborations to achieve the project’s objectives. The project team also gained valuable insights into the municipality’s programs and perspectives on food security, which will inform future project activities and community engagement efforts.
The meeting concluded successfully, marking the beginning of a strong partnership between the project team and the LGU of Pitogo, Quezon, toward promoting sustainable, gender-responsive, and community-centered permaculture practices.
