Course Description

This course explores basic concepts on financial reporting, resource allocation, and performance management nurse managers need in the daily operations of their units or workplaces. It includes topics in budgeting, revenues and costs, staffing, and performance monitoring/evaluation tools.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Interpret financial reports/statements used in decision-making;
  2. Prepare a budget for their respective units;
  3. Analyze the common types of revenues and costs in health care affecting nursing care;
  4. Utilize performance management tools in monitoring and evaluation; and
  5. Demonstrate the role of nurses in financial management.

Admission Requirements

A graduate of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.

Course Structure

This non-formal course is divided into 12 modules which are grouped into 4 units. The first unit covers an introduction that looks into the financial environment and the nurses’ role. The second unit focuses on preparation and analysis of budgets. Revenue, cost analysis and resource allocation are tackled in the third unit. While performance management tool particularly the use of dashboard and scoreboard is covered in the fourth and last unit.
