On 16 February 2017, UP Open University (UPOU), through the Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) in partnership with the #Y4IRT project, conducted a Webinar on “Satoyama in the 21 st Century” at the Audio Visual Room, UPOU, Los Baños Laguna. This web-based seminar involved the presentation of research papers from faculty members of UPOU and UP Los Baños (UPLB) in the Philippines and Kanazawa University in Japan with Asst. Prof. Aurora V. Lacaste as moderator.
The webinar was formally opened by a welcome message from Dr. Primo G. Gracia, Dean of FMDS. He hopes that the webinar is a start of a series of events that will promote the discourse about sustainability and the delicate balance between human and nature. He said that understanding the processes between these two requires an interdisciplinary approach which is basically the essence of FMDS.
The presentations are as follows:
- Understanding Satoyama in the 21st Century – Dr. Inocencio E. Buot, Jr.
- Quo Vadis: Mainstreaming the Conservation of the GIAHS Ifugao Rice – Dr. Consuelo dL. Habito
- Nature 2.0: Communication Sustainability – Dr. Joane V. Serrano
The next webinar is scheduled on 11 May 2017 with the topic Sustainable Agriculture and Tourism.
