“Digital transformation for the people!”

This is the emphasis of the turnover ceremonial program of the Barangay Digital Transformation (Dx) Hub initiative by the Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU). It aims to foster digital transformation in Laguna’s local communities as well as provide access to the Province of Laguna Employment and Information System (PLEIS).

In collaboration with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Laguna and Concentrix Philippines, FMDS is set to conduct its Barangay Digital Transformation Hub Turnover Ceremony on 01 July 2024 (2:00 PM to 3:00 PM) at the Oblation Hall, UPOU, Los Baños, Laguna. Donated computers from Concentrix Philippines will be turned over to representatives from its four barangay partners within Laguna including Brgy. Cansuso in Cavinti; Brgy. San Vicente in San Pedro; Brgy. Maahas in Los Baños; and Brgy. Sto. Domingo in Bay.

Speaking at the said turnover event will be Dr. Joane V. Serrano, FMDS Dean; Mr. Alnard U. Pagulayan, Leader-Talent Delivery of Concentrix Philippines; and Ms. Mary Jane T. Banasihan-Corcuera, Manager of PESO Laguna.

This collaborative project aims to forward the digitization of barangays through digital learning hubs, capacity-building programs, extensive open online courses, and facilitating community resilience-building and disaster response. It will also offer access to the PLEIS, a platform for efficient job seeking for barangay stakeholders.

Barangay Dx Transformation Hub is part of UPOU’s commitment to public service, specifically service to the community, and the promotion of digital transformation and community improvement. This project caters to upholding equal opportunities for the local communities in different economic aspects through technological innovation. This helps communities to be resilient and sustainable through digital transformation with the help of different partners and external stakeholders. These are all in line with different Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals).
