Last July 11, 2024, University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) Assistant Professor Lorena Jean D. Saludadez participated in the 2024 University Social Responsibility (USR) Collaborative Empowerment Series Session: Kaviaz Tumananu! International Dissemination of USR Impact, organized by the College of Life Sciences at Kaohsiung Medical University in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
The forum aimed to promote joint empowerment among participating countries and universities through a mutual learning experience. It sought to showcase the results of USR international cooperations in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while also providing a platform for participants to practice the effective international dissemination of USR impact to further inspire USR practice.
Asst. Prof. Saludadez, alongside Dr. Yong-Chao Su of Kaohsiung Medical University, presented on “Cultivating Borderless Human Capital: The IUSR Partnership in the Philippines.” Their presentation covered how the partnership on USR between the Philippines and Taiwan was initiated and highlighted the significant projects that emerged from this collaboration. They also elaborated on the potential of USR in empowering local and global communities to participate in social change and the greater fulfillment of the SDGs.
Asst. Prof. Saludadez also provided insights on UPOU’s contributions and best practices in public service by discussing various Community Inclusivity, Digital Transformation, and Acceleration Towards Sustainability (CIDAS) initiatives, including partnerships, community engagement and empowerment, knowledge and capacity building, resource sharing, and environmental conservation activities being implemented by the university.
Other participants from Thailand, Tanzania, Malaysia, Japan, and China, belonging to various universities and their partner civil society organizations, were also present to share their experiences and best practices in USR.
Through the forum, universities were called on to perform their social responsibility by further maximizing their knowledge, skills, and resources, and strengthening collaboration to contribute to the well-being of the communities they serve and the fulfillment of the SDGs.
