The Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) welcomed new students through a Hybrid Student Orientation for the First Semester/Trimester AY 2024-2025. Held on 14 September 2024 from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM, the orientation took place onsite at the Centennial Center for Digital Learning (CCDL) Auditorium, UPOU Headquarters, Los Baños, Laguna, and via Zoom. A total of 576 students attended online while 23 participated onsite.
The orientation was designed to familiarize students with the FMDS community and its resources. Key platforms introduced include the FMDS Student Support Site, Facebook Group Chats, and the MindsMatter program. Students were also briefed on essential academic policies relevant to their respective programs.
Dr. Joane V. Serrano, Dean of FMDS, opened the event with a message, followed by Audio-Visual Presentations (AVPs) introducing FMDS, its faculty, staff, and services. Ms. Erma Tidon, a psychotherapist, also led a session under the MindsMatter initiative, emphasizing FMDS’ commitment to student well-being. The event also included engaging icebreakers, a raffle, and prizes for active participation.
The program then transitioned into breakout sessions where students attended program-specific orientations. The event concluded with the FMDS Open House, allowing students to explore more about the Faculty, services, and available resources.
Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) – Quality Education, FMDS reaffirms its commitment to providing inclusive, accessible, and equitable education, equipping students with the knowledge and support necessary for academic success.
