The Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) officially established its Research Ethics Committee (REC), marking a significant milestone in FMDS’ commitment to ethical research practices. Formed in December 2024, the FMDS REC aims to promote research integrity, protect research participants, and adhere to University and national research ethics standards. This initiative underscores FMDS’ dedication to fostering a culture of responsible research amid its growing contributions to the academic and professional communities.

Establishing the FMDS REC is in line with the mandate of the University of the Philippines Open University Institutional Research Ethics Committee (UPOU IREC) of ensuring that the research conducted by faculty members; Research, Extension and Professional Staff (REPS); administrative staff, Contract of Service (CoS) staff, and students of the UPOU community adhere to national and international ethical principles and standards. It also stems from the increased research activity within FMDS. As FMDS continues to expand its academic programs and research initiatives, the need for a dedicated body to oversee the ethical dimensions of these projects has become imperative. The committee is designed to promote ethical research practices, provide guidance and review of research protocols, and protect research participants’ rights and welfare. Through these functions, the FMDS REC facilitates ethical compliance and strengthens the overall quality and impact of FMDS research.

Led by its current Chair, Asst. Prof. Leo Mendel D. Rosario, the FMDS REC is composed of faculty members, community representatives, and external experts. This diverse team ensures a multidisciplinary and impartial approach to ethical oversight.

Researchers and students at FMDS are encouraged to submit their research protocols for review and actively engage with the committee’s initiatives. For inquiries, please contact the committee via [email protected].
