The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) was honored at the 2025 Gawad Tabon for its significant contributions to Sto. Domingo Elementary School’s efforts to create a competitive and transformative learning environment. The awarding ceremony was held on 14 March 2025, at the Aggie’s Function Hall, Barangay Maitim Bay, Laguna. The award was received by Ms. Dona Lyn M. Piamonte from the UPOU Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS).

UPOU-FMDS and the Ugnayan ng Pahinungod played a key role in enhancing the educational experience of Sto. Domingo Elementary School learners through its “Earth Ambassador Program” and the “Bata, Basa Reading Program”, respectively. The Earth Ambassador Program promoted environmental awareness and encouraged young learners to adopt sustainable practices and develop a sense of environmental responsibility. Meanwhile, the Bata, Basa Reading Program supported literacy by improving reading skills and fostering a love for learning among students.

Beyond these programs, UPOU also implemented various community outreach and capacity-building initiatives aimed at empowering schools and improving educational outcomes. Sto. Domingo Elementary School recognized UPOU as a valued partner in creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

The Gawad Tabon celebrates education stakeholders who have made a meaningful impact on schools and learners. UPOU expressed its gratitude for the recognition and looks forward to continuing its partnership with Sto. Domingo Elementary School to advance education and empower future generations in support of Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 17 (Partnership for the Goals).
