

The project team of “Participatory Approach in Assessing and Promoting Women-led Permaculture among Selected Permaculture Sites in the Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources (AANR) Sectors in the Philippines” conducted a courtesy call to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Compostela, Cebu, on September 25, 2025.
The project, led by Dean Finaflor Taylan, generally aims to assess and promote women-led permaculture practices and approaches among the AANR sectors towards social and environmental development and sustainability. It seeks to document and evaluate the strategies, roles, and impacts of women-led initiatives in promoting sustainable agriculture and community-based resource management.
The visit aimed to introduce the project to the local government and discuss potential areas of collaboration and support in promoting women-led permaculture initiatives at the community level.
Representing the project during the courtesy call were aProf. Maria Lourdes Jarabe, Dr. Jabez Joshua Flores, Raizza Anna Alforja, Tiffany Leanne Catbagan, and Nestor Campaner. The team presented the project’s objectives, scope, and expected outcomes, emphasizing its alignment with local development goals on gender inclusivity, sustainability, and livelihood enhancement.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Office of the Mayor, Municipal Agriculturist Office, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), Municipal Tourism Office, and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO).
The LGU units of Compostela expressed strong support for the project and openness to future collaboration in promoting sustainable, inclusive, and women-led permaculture practices in the municipality.
