The University of the Philippines Open University-Faculty of Management and Development Studies (UPOU-FMDS) partners with the University of the Philippines Los Banos-Institute of Renewable Natural Resources (UPLB-IRNR) of the College of Forestry and Natural Resources (CFNR) for an upcoming hybrid webinar on “Geospatial Innovations and Data Analytics for Resilient Communities”. This is scheduled on 16 December 2024, from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM at the UPOU Audiovisual Room, via Zoom, and various UPOU streaming platforms.
This event is part of the FMDS’ Let’s Talk it Over (LTiO) three-part seminar on Usapang Mapa at Kapaligiran: A Discussion Series on Urban Planning, Environmental Management, and Sustainability, which aims to provide participants with an understanding of the Geographic Information System (GIS) and its real-world applications, highlighting its role in solving contemporary challenges.
This initiative is geared towards community inclusivity, digital transformation, and acceleration towards sustainability, FMDS’ public service and research thrust. It also aligns with various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), and Climate Action (SDG 13).
The third and final episode for this series will feature experts who will share the significance of mapping in disaster preparedness and resilience efforts.
Dr. Cristino L. Tiburan Jr., UP Scientist I and a Professor from IRNR, CFNR, UP Los Baños will discuss “Mapping the Future: Trends and Innovations in Geospatial Technologies” while Assistant Professor Milben A. Bragais from the Faculty of Management and Development Studies, UP Open University will tackle “3D Visualization Demo using GIS for DRR”.
