The Continuing Education Program (CEP) of the UP Open University’s (UPOU) Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS), in collaboration with the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) and the University of the Philippines Open University Foundation, Inc. (UPOUFI), is excited to announce the launching of a new course on “e-Learning for Champions to Scale Up School-plus-Home Gardens in the Philippines and Southeast Asia (eLS+HG)”. This course will commence on 22 February 2025 and will run for 16 weeks. 

As part of the Environmental Cluster under the CEP, eLS+HG is a fee-based, non-formal course to be delivered fully online. The course provides a step-by-step guide to establishing and/or enhancing school gardens as learning laboratories focused on three key pillars: nutrition, education, and the economic well-being of schoolchildren and their families.

Who Should Enroll?

While the course is open to the public, it is designed especially for:

  • School teachers handling Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) subjects such as Agri-Fishery and Home Economics.
  • Coordinators of vegetable school garden programs (e.g., Gulayan sa Paaralan Program) and School-Based Feeding Programs (SBFP).
  • Teachers in Alternative Learning Systems (ALS) or those handling Science, Math, English, vocational, or livelihood courses.
  • Coordinators of school gardens and feeding programs in SEAMEO member countries.
  • Technical staff from the Department/Ministry of Education (e.g., provincial or district-level TLE heads).
  • Local Government Unit (LGU) technical staff involved in community livelihood or school garden initiatives.
