The UP Open University (UPOU) Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) proudly congratulates Frances Sison-Medalla, alumna of the Diploma in and Master of Social Work (MSW) program, for successfully passing the Social Workers Licensure Examination (SWLE) and earning the professional designation Registered Social Worker (RSW).

RSW Medalla’s journey reflects the value of accessible and flexible learning pathways that enable Filipino professionals to pursue advanced education while continuing their work and service to their communities.

Inspired by the social needs of fellow Filipinos, RSW Medalla pursued formal education in social work to “help be part of the solution.” Through her studies at UPOU, she gained further grounding in social work practice while building networks with individuals and organizations who share her commitment to creating change at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels.

Her academic journey from DSW to MSW, undertaken alongside her professional work, exemplifies how UPOU’s flexible learning environment supports working professionals wherever they are, enabling them to continuously develop their knowledge and skills while remaining engaged in their communities and professions.

RSW Medalla currently serves as Operations Head of Christ’s Commission Foundation Ministries Inc. (CCFMI), a faith-based Non-Government Organization (NGO). Prior to this, she spent seven years with Compassion International while pursuing her studies.

Her achievement as a Registered Social Worker is not only a personal milestone, but also a testament to the transformative possibilities of lifelong learning and professional development.

Through accessible and flexible education, UPOU continues to empower Filipino professionals to deepen their practice, expand their networks, and contribute meaningfully to social transformation.
