The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS) held a closing ceremony of the Knowledge Management for Development (KM4D) Mentorship Program on 14 July 2023 at the UPOU Audiovisual Room, Los Baños, Laguna. 

The KM4D Mentorship Program, a first of its kind, was a product of collaboration between the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB), UPOU FMDS and UPOU Faculty of Information and Communication Studies (FICS). It pilot tested a micro-credentialing system wherein apart from the KM4D mentorship sessions, the mentees participated in the COMM 350: Information and Knowledge Management classes, a course taken by Doctor of Communication (DComm) students. The mentees received a certificate of completion for KM4D and certificate of attendance for COMM 350.

KM4D was innovative in its use of the mentorship approach in terms of non-formal course offering. It was primarily blended which tapped the affordances of technology; it incorporated opportunities for interaction among non-degree and degree students, thus enriching the discourse; it provided a wide range of learning resources and approaches that included the KM4D Conversations and KM4D Practicum or workshops. 

The head of the ACB Knowledge Management Division, Dr. Renee P. Lorica, delivered their team’s response to the mentorship program. Dr. Alexander G. Flor, their mentor, also graced the occasion alongside Dr. Melinda F. Lumanta, President of the UPOU Foundation Inc., Dr. Joane V. Serrano, Dean of UPOU FMDS, and Mr. Larry N. Cruz, the Program Development Associate of UPOU FMDS Continuing Education Program.
