The University of the Philippines Open University-Faculty of Management and Development Studies’ (UPOU-FMDS) Master of Arts in Nursing (MAN) program held its Clinical Practicum Orientation on 6 September 2024. The event was attended by nursing leaders from affiliated hospitals, including Brokenshire Medical Center in Davao, Los Baños Doctors Hospital and Medical Center, and University Health Service in Laguna, and Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan.
The participants were warmly welcomed by Asst. Prof. Ria Valerie D. Cabanes, the Chair of the MAN program. Asst. Prof. Regine Karla P. Bagalanon, the Program Development Associate for Clinical Practicum of the MAN program, discussed setting clear expectations between UPOU and its partner hospitals, outlining the roles and responsibilities of both the hospitals and preceptors in the clinical practicum. The program of study for the MAN, with a specific focus on the clinical practicum component, was explained to ensure alignment between UPOU’s academic objectives and the clinical training provided by the hospitals.
The open forum, facilitated by Dr. Rita C. Ramos, Assistant Professor and regular faculty member of the MAN program provided a platform for participants to raise questions and share insights. Opportunities for research and collaborative projects between the university and the affiliated hospitals were explored, highlighting the potential for joint initiatives that could advance both clinical practice and academic research. Plans for future courtesy calls to strengthen partnerships and enhance communication channels were also discussed, ensuring ongoing cooperation between UPOU and its clinical partners.
The event concluded with closing remarks delivered by Dr. Queenie R. Ridulme, Assistant Professor and regular faculty member of the MAN program, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration between UPOU and its affiliated hospitals in delivering high-quality clinical training in support of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), No. 4 (Quality Education) and No. 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
